11:38 am - Seriously?
|
Is it just me or what?
"Some" vs. "Several"
That seems to me a "to-may-to" vs. "to-mah-to" thing.
Person asked if it should be changed from "several" to "some" (because we are talking about 4 things instead of 3 or something like that); the Internal Review said it didn't matter. Then the first person, though claiming that it's not a big deal, is making it a big deal?
Huh?
Am I missing something? Is the internal reviewer missing something?
*sigh*
On a more cheery note: HAPPY EARTH DAY!

2:22 pm - Yay Me!

Won for most festive garb at work today.
Now on my way home I need to find a reuben and some green ice cream (my new tradition I'm starting this year).
Again, Happy St. Patrick's Day all!

The Project Manager treated the contract to lunch at Maggiano's. There was a raffle for 3 AmEx gift checks. I was one of the winners. Desperately need the $ just for basic things like, you know, groceries. I was so happy even relieved. I really did desperately need it. It's only $25, but still desperately needed.

11:13 am - Not Mutually Exclusive?
|
Could someone please tell me how it is that where I live (and where I work) can be under a Winter Storm Watch and a Flood Watch at the same time? How are those 2 warnings not mutually exclusive? But sure enough, the NWS (National Weather Service) says the county where I live and work (among many other counties and principalities north and west of DC) are under both for the same timeframe. I can understand if the Flood Watch started after the winter stuff turned to rain, but it's for the time period when they are expecting us to be getting sleet and freezing rain. It seems to me we wouldn't have to worry about flooding until it warmed up and turned to rain...
ETA: It appears the Winter Storm Watch has been lifted, but I'm still under a Flood watch. Normal wet rain (as opposed to freezing rain) I can deal with.

4:22 pm - Boy! I've Been a Busy Poster Today
|
But I promise you I did get work done at work today. Anyway.
There is one song that makes me cry as soon as the introduction starts, even though said introduction doesn't have any words. The song is Christmas Shoes. This song will also keep me crying for a few minutes after it's ended too.
Sometimes, just thinking about the song can bring tears to my eyes.
Sometimes I wonder why I'm such an emotional being...

7:14 am - Tiger Woods
|
OK. It's 2-something in the morning. Why is Tiger Woods leaving to drive somewhere?
Tiger hits a fire hydrant and tree, but air bags do not deploy. Why does his wife need to bash in the back window to pull him to safety?
Is it true he was backing out of his driveway? If so, again why does his wife need to bash in teh back window to pull him to safety? If he backed into the hydrant and tree, wouldn't the doors work? Or wouldn't the windshield be a better option if the doors don't work?
Tiger's wife has changed her story? Why?
The 911 phone call is placed from a neighbor's house, but the neighbor says he didn't make the phone call?
What the heck is going on here? This whole Tiger Woods thing seems to be getting curiouser and curiouser.

7:09 am - Dream
|
Really the only part of my dream I want to mention was that I flew. Not in a plane, not in a helicopter or anything. I literally flew.
I was trying to escape a bad situation and while I was flying I was having to fight some kind of spell being cast by my Uncle Jafar to bring back to the ground because if it worked I'd be stuck for life (or something like that.)
Uncle Jafar???????? Srsly brain! (;
But hey, I literally flew! I love literally flying. (:
All that said, I must investigate what the dream is trying to tell me...

7:08 am - This is Amusing (and Strikes Me as a Little Scary for Some Reason Despite the Intended Satire)

Interesting article...
Activist seeks divorce ban in California
The sub-header even calls this a comedic movement and it indicates this movement is meant as satire so I don't know what about it is scaring me just a little. It is most definitely amusing me though too. (:

7:35 pm - Ma'am?
|
So a 30-something friend went to see New Moon. Apparently someone - tween I think - called her ma'am. She was bothered by that.
I tried to point out that "ma'am" is simply a term of respect, not any indication of how old the person thought she was. She and everyone else commenting on her annoyance seem to disagree with me. What say you?
I personally was taught to always use sir and ma'am. I thought that was standard practice. I don't know when it became a term you only used for "old" people. Though I do remember being a movie theatre working and calling someone, who wasn't much older than me, "ma'am" and having her ask me not to call her that because she was too young for that term. I wanted to say "since when does age matter" but I thought better of it.
I also remember jokingly protesting when a co-worker called me ma'am only to have her chew me out for protesting that she used a term of respect to me.

Waiting for Urgent Care that's within walking distance to open so I can hopefully get my eye checked.
Mildly hurts today (as opposed to last night's "just felt some discomfort") and it's watering a LOT.
*sigh*
ETA: Scratched cornea. Warm compress and antibiotic ointment for the next 7 days.
